Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid primarily found in fish such as mackereltunasalmon and Alaskan Pollock. Experts say each of us should be getting around two servings of omega-3 per week, but why is that? Omega-3 is Good for Your Blood

Omega-3 has been proven to lower the levels of triglyceride fat in the blood. A healthy body contains, on average, less than 150mg of triglyceride per decilitre of blood; anything more than this is considered to be signs of a poor diet. Not only that, omega-3 is known to reduce the risk of blood clots and stop plaque from attaching to the arteries. In fact, one study has found that heart attack survivors who started eating more fish or consuming fish oils significantly reduced their chances of another attack.

There Are a Range of Anti-Inflammatory Benefits

Fish that are high in omega-3 are fantastic for treating stiffness and joint pain, both well-known symptoms of arthritis. This is due to omega-3’s function as an anti-inflammatory, also making it ideal for treating asthma since that particular disease is caused by chronic inflammation of the airways.

As well as the serious contributions that fish can make to your body, there are a great deal of mental health advantages as well. Omega-3 has been found to lower levels of depression in sufferers, as well as boosting the effects of antidepressant medication.
